Welcome to Katnip Kafe
A Place for Kool Katz
Welcome to Katnip Kafe, a haven for bookworms and cat lovers created from our love of books and the soothing presence of cats. We are launching online, curating a digital library filled with captivating ebooks on topics from fiction to self-growth and mental wellness. We believe stories connect and inspire us, and we’re excited to share our collection with you.

Our Vision: Cat Haven
Katnip Kafe envisions a unique and welcoming community space for book lovers, feline fanatics, and anyone seeking a relaxing escape. We’re creating a place where the joy of reading, the soothing presence of cats, and a comfortable atmosphere come together. We aim to offer a curated collection of engaging reads, a platform for sharing stories and connecting with fellow enthusiasts, and a celebration of the special bond between humans and their feline companions. We believe in fostering a sense of belonging, where individuals can unwind, discover new passions, and connect with like-minded souls.
Meet the Mascots! Pearl and Money Mula
Pearl – The Queen of Quiet Corners, Content in Her Cardboard Kingdom
Pearl, the beautiful Siamese matriarch of the Katnip Kafe family, is a somewhat skittish seven-year-old (born August 28, 2017). Her story is one of resilience; she was rescued from a storm drain as a tiny kitten and lovingly raised by her human mom. While initially shy, Pearl is incredibly loving and affectionate once she feels comfortable. She’s a true daddy’s girl, affectionately known as “Pearly Swirly Daddy’s Girly,” and often claims his spot on the bed when he’s away. However, she also seeks out quiet corners to escape the playful antics of her son, Money Mula. Pearl has a serious weakness for treats – the mere rustle of the treat bag will send her running! She also has a playful side and enjoys batting at rubber bands and exploring the depths of cardboard boxes (her absolute favorite!).
Money Mula – The Vocal Voyager, Master of the Begging Arts
Money Mula, Pearl’s energetic and curious son, is a six-year-old (born November 10, 2018) ball of fur. A self-proclaimed “scaredy cat,” Money Mula is surprisingly vocal and loves to “talk back” to his humans. He’s incredibly needy and always wants to be close to his human mom, following her everywhere. This little guy is incredibly curious and wants to be involved in everything you do, often using you as leverage to reach higher places (including your shoulders, where he loves to be carried around!). He has a particular fondness for closets and a strong dislike for closed doors. Having been raised alongside a dog, Money Mula has some distinctly canine tendencies, especially when it comes to food. He’s a champion beggar and will patiently (or impatiently!) wait for a taste of whatever you’re eating. He even sleeps in mom’s spot sometimes, but mostly wherever the mood strikes him.
Our Future: A Cozy Cat Café in Detroit
Our long-term vision includes a brick-and-mortar location in Detroit, Michigan, where the pages of a good book and the gentle presence of our feline friends can provide the perfect backdrop for relaxation and connection. Imagine a cozy library filled with literary treasures, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and the playful antics of resident cats, including our beloved Pearl and Money Mula (check out their adventures on Instagram!). We’re creating a space where book lovers can discover new authors, where cat enthusiasts can enjoy the company of these majestic creatures, and where those seeking a tranquil escape can find their haven. We hope to provide a space where people can unwind and enjoy their favorite book, or have a little something to enhance their experience.
